Richard Berry is an artist whose watercolours capture the delicacy of light when it is reflected by water, rock and sky. His landscapes explore the shade and rich verdure, which signal the well-loved moors and shores of Devon.

Richard has been teaching himself to paint for twenty years and has exhibited both in Devon and in Brittany. In recent years he has been working full time at his studio in the ancient town of Ashburton and has introduced oils and mixed media into his repertoire.

Working from direct observation of townscapes or the natural landscape he blends the authentic scene with his interpretation for the movement of water, clouds or air and the sense of season. His paintings create an atmosphere, which satisfy the emotions and imagination. Richard works to commission, interpreting the mood and flavour to make each painting unique.

Richard has strong links with Shaldon and Teignmouth having lived in Shaldon for some time. As a young man he was to be found deck chair collecting on the beaches.
